START TO FINISH PART 4 - THE FINAL TURN
By Kim Thomas
The third and final turn can sometimes be the toughest because we anticipate the finish.
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, so we are going to leave the 2nd straight and close and continue forward motion to our pocket on the third. Picture your barrel laying on its side (approx 3 ft) keeping your horses head and body straight until that point, pick up on your inside rein and he should finish nice and straight towards the alley. In my slow work I will over turn the third and head back towards the fence insuring that my horse complete his turn before he starts the hard run home!!
