DUNN RANCH
Matt, Bendi, Logan & Madison

Matt and I married in 2004. I grew up on a cattle/horse farm so I have always been around barrel racing and farm life. Matt on the other hand, was a young self-made business owner. Matt started his own commercial cabinet business called Cabinet Masters in 1996--his business has now grown to a 150,000 square foot building and 30-40 employees at all times. I graduated from Missouri Valley College in 2001 with my Bachelor’s Degree in business and I did college rodeo there for 4 years. After graduation I moved back to my home town of Bismarck, MO and joined my long time family business, Grisham Real Estate. I have now been an active Real Estate Broker since 2002. We have been super blessed in our professional lives with amazing customers and employees that have allowed us to succeed. We live here in Bismarck on the most beautiful 80 acres in the area.

We started buying young horses about 10 years ago and putting them in barrel training just learning the ropes… LOTS and LOTS of learning...lol. We had a few nice horses early on but I’d say things got really serious about 7 years ago when we purchased that feisty gray mare, Mulberry Canyon Moon. Things would never be the same from then on--owning her was the best decision we ever made. Troy Crumrine had trained her and stayed as her jockey through her derby years. We were selling embryos out of her at the time and decided to try and see if she could also succeed as a rodeo horse. We approached multiple NFR qualifier Angie Meadors. Mulberry and Angie quickly connected and began winning. They went on to make 2 NFR appearances together winning 3 rounds as well as lots of other great wins and placing all over the country--it was an amazing ride for all of us. Now at 11 years old Mulberry has won over $400,000 and she has embryo transferred I think 18 babies that are making great horses all over the country.

Mulberry, being the foundation and the drive behind our horse operation, led us in so many directions. We have been very blessed to have one of the all-time greatest trainers in the country train many other great horses for us throughout the past few years including Imafrenchmanspistol, Costly Crystal and our current stand out, LC Packin Heat. Two years ago we also paired up with futurity standout trainer Jolene Montgomery and our first horse with her, Dashin Czar has gone on to win over $150,000 this year so far. Jolene is a hard working gal; she’s got several horses that we have raised and we are really looking forward to what is to come.

Although the barrel horses have been our bread and butter, we actually own more race horses. We currently have 9 race horses in training--most all we have bred and raised. We have been breeding for about 5 years now and currently have about 45 head of horses. Matt really loves the race horses. He is obsessed with finding that magic cross…lol. One of our first race horses was a son of the great First Down Dash, his name was Divas First Down and he went on to qualify for the Heritage Place finals.

With 11 foals due in 2015 we are going to have full pastures here in our little town of Bismarck--Missouri is not the ideal place to breed and raise babies as we are not close to anything, but we make it work with lots of driving all over the country!

December brings the BFA in Oklahoma City and we will have one of our home-grown fillies in the 100k Super Stakes, horses in the Juvenile Futurity, the Futurity and the Derby—it’s going to be an exciting week. Also looking forward to 2015 as Troy has both Mulberry and LC Packin Heat qualified for The RFDTV American Rodeo Semi Finals in February in Ft Worth and Jolene is entered at the Texas qualifier on Dashin Czar.

This horse business is humbling that is for sure…one week you’re on top of the world, the next you are hitting barrels or getting bumped at the gate .. lol. We are extremely blessed to have LOTS of people stand behind us and believe in our decisions. It takes a team to make it all work and we are so lucky to have that.

We also have 2 super kiddos, Logan and Madison ...they are great kids and they just add to this success in life…couldn't ask for anything more!!!
